As i find reviews revealing and useful before buying a product, even the excessively bad ones, i thought this might help another artist.The size and description is exactly as described. I find the less traditional rectangular shape more suitable for standing in front of a large canvas and provides more surface area. Exceptionally light weight and easy to use with the edges smoothed by the manufacturer. After use i did sand a greater bevel around the thumb hole as it does bite into the skin a little after time owing to the thinness of the palette but this is not essential. I mix most colours on a table grey backed glass palette and transfer the paint to the portable one before further mixing in front of the painting. Initially i thought to spray the rear side grey but thinking the spray paint might effect the composition of the plastic i decided against, although using grey acrylic colour from the art box would not have been a problem. I am glad i didn’t ,as the virtue of its transparent nature, is colour matching existing painted areas. Whilst the edge of any palette could be used for this , the whole surface can be used wherever you mix and wish to put it up against the painting. It also reveals the transparency of your mixed paint well against your painting in the same manner. Clearly strong enough for its purpose , i would caution about leaving it out exposed to strong sunlight or heat as it might become brittle and crack after a while. It feels, owing to its thinness that it is not for life but something to use and replace after a year or two. The surface does scratch a little with a palette knife but only slightly and not to the detriment of use. The acrylic paint cleaned off easily even when dry with water and a soft cloth. All in all a product worth the money. An increase in thickness of 0.5 or even 1mm would improve feel and confident of handling but the trade off is weight, hence the purchase . I would buy again ,and possibily increase the size next time for increased surface area ,now i know how light and bareable it is in use. Satisfied that i don’t have to buy expensive sheets of perspex style sheet and cut ,shape and sand my own palette . Someone has already done it and it works. ?
